With the community buyout of the Bays of Harris estate expected to be finalised next year, information days are being held starting tomorrow, OriginalarticleWednesday, November 22 in Berneray.
The drop-in at Berneray Community Hall will take place between 2 pm and 8 pm, with drop-in sessions also planned for Leverbugh Hub on Wednesday, November 29 and in the Bays Centre on Friday, December 1, during the same hours.
The three drop-ins are being held by the interim board of the Bays of Harris Community Estate and are a chance to get updated with the latest information on the buyout deal.
Free membership of the interim board of the Bays of Harris Community Estate is also available to give the estate community a say in their future.
Comments the community estate: “Board members are optimistic the Bays of Harris Community Estate Limited, acting on behalf of the community, will strike a deal with the current landlord in the coming months and finally bring the Estate into community ownership at some point in 2024.”
A buyout will, it is hoped, open the door to reversing a century of decline.
A new website – baysofharris.org – has been launched, with information about membership and a detailed FAQ explaining the benefits of becoming a member of Bays of Harris Community Estate Ltd. There is also an online membership form for those who can’t make it to the drop-in sessions.
